McDonald’s will buy every one of its 225 franchise restaurants in Israel, it announced Thursday, just weeks after saying that the Israel-Hamas war was hurting its business.

McDonald’s added in the statement that it “remains committed to the Israeli market and to ensuring a positive employee and customer experience in the market going forward.”

Depends on how you look at it. You could argue that it means that they were forced to do something because public opinion is shifting against the genocide, but the pessimist in me tells me that they don’t actually care and use the death of many people as a PR stunt.

So they bought all the franchises in Israel to stop them from giving discounts to Israeli soldiers in the wake of global disgust in the event it might lead to a larger boycott? Must have been quite a payout to that one company that owns all of them and doesn’t mind donating to the Israeli military.
