I genuinely feel like this man has convinced himself of the whole “If you just treat racists with kindness, love, and respect instead of beating their shit out, they’ll totally love you so much that they’ll stop being racist!” even though the comment section on this video is the most Reddit thing I’ve ever read outside of Reddit. If he is grifting, people are clearly buying into it.

Pretty much the vibe I’ve always gotten. Naive at best, and it reinforces an incredibly wrong idea. Treating most virulent racists in that manner doesn’t make them less racist, it at best makes them think you’re ‘one of the good ones’.

I once had a dream several years ago involving Daryl Davis. I was living in Soviet Kiev and he was my school teacher. He was also really fucking buff. In any case, I was in a shopping center, I bumped into him, and he then commanded me to take my clothes off and use the fabric to sew the North Star Flag (a proposed flag for Minnesota designed in 1989). I insisted that I could not do this for my clothes were of the wrong colors, nevertheless he insisted. And so I complied, substituting the blue part of the flag for black from my t-shirt and the green part for beige from my cargo pants. I do not know how I actually cut and sewed the pieces of fabric together as I would not have had access to either scissors or a sewing needle and thread, but either way I successfully made the flag and showed it to him, and he was quite impressed with my work. I apparently wore two layers of all my clothing such that I did not become naked from the ordeal.

Daryl Davis and I then together entered a pirate-themed restaurant, which within a short time inextricably transformed into an actual pirate ship. I suppose the miscolored North Star Flag was then intended to be used as the ship’s ensign.
