Don’t know what this technique/style is but I love the bold, impressionistic (?) brushwork. There’s something about making as few, but confidently well placed marks as possible - while still capturing the essence of the subject and it feeling dynamic - that pleases me.
After thinking about it for a bit, I concluded that it works so exceptionally well in this instance because this is drawing hairs using hairs (on the brush). I might be wrong though, I know jack shut about art.
I have seen this sort of minimal treatment work well for (human) portraits too.
Of course, but I would say that here it reaches levels of realism that it shouldn’t be able to.
Possibly yes. Perhaps we can wait here until an actual artist comes along and sheds (hah) light on the matter.
