Of course it’s the only thing that matters to him, he’s spent a huge chunk of his life on it.

(In fairness he immediately said “That’s sure to be taken out of context!” He was just discussing the importance of Kubernetes compared to the kernel.)

In general, Torvalds doesn’t care about newer technologies like the cloud and Kubernetes. “The only thing that matters is the kernel.” Hohndel rejoined, “That’s sure to be taken out of context!”

Torvalds replied that he knows they are all very useful, but "clusters, clouds, and  Kubernetes are not an issue for me. The great thing about open source is that everyone specializes in what they’re interested in

He was just discussing what he personally spends his time on.

“Torvalds groaned and replied, “I never had a vision. I don’t want one. I see myself as a plodding engineer.” On that note, the interview ended to the crowd’s applause.”

    Legend.

It’s so weird to see him with gray hair. I wonder who will fill his role when he’s gone.

He’s turning sixty. He’s still got a good 20+ years if he takes care of himself and maybe more with how medical advances are progressing (due to Linus, in no small measure!)
