When I first played this DLC my head-canon was that the courier took only as much as they could carry and not a pound more due to fear of the red mist. My courier min-max greed and survival and greed only matters if you can live to spend it. I end it up just leaving the gold bars in a cabinet at the Lucky 38
system tweak that makes all miscellaneous items (including gold) 0
