Medium was always shit.
Is this particularly worse than when Medium was filled with artisinally hand crafted slop before AI was a thing?
As someone who writes on Medium ocassionally — no.
Medium like all other blogging platforms has a problem of incentive. The pay is too little for quality writing and there’s always a gamble on whether your article gets views as you don’t control SEO or even formatting for that matter.
It was always filled with low effor slop because most are either:
- practicing writing
- building out their brand which is basically newbies
- trying to make pennies through low effor churn
I feel for Medium here as it does have an unsolvable problem really and AI has nothing to do with it.
We are in the slop era.
Follow people for their reputations and credibility and it doesn’t matter
We need some kind of search engine that’s based on trust
Just watched rant about a large historic museum in Germany using plenty of awful AI imagery, supposedly about the middle ages, showing what can only be identified as Mandalorians from Star Wars. It’s unnerving how far AI slob cancer reaches and we’re only at the early stages and how little responsibility anyone is willing to take when using AI.
Do you have a source of that Germany museum?, I do not find it online.
CEO Tony Stubblebine says it “doesn’t matter” as long as
nobody reads it.they keep generating sign-ups and selling ads… till next quarter, at least.:shocked pikachu:
How does ai report news reliably? I wouldn’t trust ai to report the news. It might get some stories right but knowing it’s not human it will miss something.
When anyone hears that any news source uses ai to write and rpeort news they need to write down a list of sites known to be using ai, and even radio station are now using ai for commentary apparently.
“It’s crucial…”
