Wow. Sure hope they don’t go broke with such a massive donation. How can they survive?

According to a quick web search, Oprah Winfrey has a net worth of 2.5 billion as of 2023. Dwayne Johnson has an estimated 800 million. Assuming they donated equal parts, that’s 5 million each, or 0.2% and 0.625% of their net worth each.

In other words, if I have 100k to my name and donate 200 bucks to this, it hurts me just as much as it hurts Oprah.

Let’s not pretend they are doing any more than good publicity here for cents and pennies. Yes it helps people and that commendable, but this is chump change thrown into a beggars hat.

Thanks for the help Oprah! But I don’t know if any of the good will you spread will ever make up for all your wrongs and harm to society, including “doctor” Phil and Oz

What I’m hearing here is that, if I were a celebrity, it would be safest to donate nothing

$1200 a month to people who have no homes in the highest COL state in the US

It’s great they’re doing that, but Lahaina is also the most expensive part of Maui to live in. For reference, rent in the cheapest part of Maui in Wailuku can easily go for $1400-$1500 for a ~300sqft studio.
