Highlights of Jolyon Palmer’s analysis front the F1 YouTube channel. His full analysis is longer but available only on F1TV via paid subscription, this is the free/public bit and doesn’t feel like a teaser… it completely covers one of his major topics and completely omits some other stuff.

We saw a lot of drivers receiving penalties for leaving the track during Sunday’s race at the Red Bull Ring. But why did we see so many track limit violations? Jolyon Palmer assesses why we saw so many penalties and what can be done to prevent so many violations in future races, presented by Workday.
I like his idea of a strip of grass of like 2 meters wide, that’d be enough to dissuade anyone from going off without unduly worsening the safety of that corner
I wouldn’t want to be the one taking care of that patch of grass though. I guess gravel could work as well but that’d make such a mess
Yeah, the simple way to reduce track limit violations is just to make exceeding track limits slower. Artificial grass is presumably the sort of thing that could be replaced between Saturday and Sunday on a race weekend if drivers were hitting it enough to cause significant damage to it.
hmm artificial grass might be a bit too grippy though. Perhaps they could just remove the top inch or so from the surface then install some sprinklers? ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ
Replacing the blue strip with a different surface seems like the best idea. Curbs in general are shit, especially in a high speed corner like this.
