Flash cost Warner Bros. almost $220 million and it was the biggest bomb of the year. Barbie’s budget is only $150 million and will very likely become the highest-grossing film of the year.
It’s really not surprising. Every Superhero film is competing with every other superhero film. How many blockbuster films are aimed at women?
And the Flash is particularly bad. Aside from all the crazy shit Miller did that Warner Bros just hoped everyone would forget, this is the last movie in a dead universe. Nothing that happens in it will matter for the future. Why would anyone pay the price of a movie ticket to see this of all things?
Last movie? Brother, we still got Aquaman 2 and Blue Beatle to suffer through! But you’re right about the dead universe. The biggest selling point for all comic book movies, maybe the only reason for their continued existence, is continuity between films. Cinematic Universe. The moment they announced they’re rebooting this shit show, every movie left on the slate was destined to collosally bombed.
Honestly, probably. I didn’t see the flash only because it was one of those super hero movies I can watch later or something. My wife also loves super hero movies and didn’t feel like going. Not because we felt it would suck, but because we felt it was probably good enough for home watching.
Barbie is something both of us want to watch and are going this evening to see. I’m sure it will have a lot of similar tropes to lots of movies and isn’t going to change cinema forever, but it will at least be different enough from super hero movies in general and looks it will be fun.
So I don’t hate flash. I just decided to skip it for later as I’ve done with other DC and marvel movies. They’re not different enough from each other anymore. It used to be Captain America as a spy thriller and Thor as an old gods new world type of deal and so on. Now marvel is just average jokes average movie. Which is fine but that’s home watching stuff. Maybe an occasional theater watch if we want to get out of the house.
I liked the flash it was at least a lot better than I expected.

Based on what I’ve heard about the Barbie story I wonder if it’s going to drop a lot weekend after weekend. Many people were thinking they’d get an inoffensive children’s movie but it sounds like it very different.
I havent seen it yet, but the vibes from the trailers told me it wasnt going to be a children’s story, and if people thought that… oh man…
It’s one of those “kids will love it but adults have good jokes too” movies. I was, however, side-eyeing the whole theater when the Kens started chanting “beach him off, beach him off, beach him off…”
There were a ton of kids in the theater when I went to see it with some friends. Most were around 11-14 and I think the movie was appropriate for them. I wouldn’t let my 8 year old and 5 year old see it though
