The requirements on those haven’t changed since the 90s. You want people to be ready for a possible guerilla war and basically still ban 15000 models of firearms by name without any reason other than ‘AR-15 bad’ and ‘this rifle looks military even though it is a plinker jam-o-matic in a civilian caliber’. They sent many to Ukraine and they threw the latter in the garbage because of useless they are. They even banned hunting rounds for arbitrary reasons, like single shot rifles from the 1880s and the Weatherby .460 magnum, a big game hunting round, because they banned anything with a muzzle energy of more than 20K joules… Calling it an anti material rifle, which it is woefully unsuited for. Even banning the .50 BMG, which has never been used in a crime in Canada, was done entirely on some ‘we have moved beyond this as a society’ or ‘weapons of war Canadians don’t need’ even though at this point the world has been regressing back to violent authoritianism at breakneck speeds AND they have done jackshit to counter any rightwing misinformation. Incels are getting worse and worse and they are still pushing for gun laws entirely due to the 1989 shooting done by a proto-incel.

If anything I firmly believe they will discourage the average Canuck from resisting and those that and survive this war will probably have to deal with all manner of issues from the government going forward.

Before I quit drinking (for now) I noticed they put on Canadian liquors that I never heard of before and they were great.

Guns are stupidly easy to use. They do need training to use WELL but the most it would take is a few weeks for basic firefight skills. Most of it is knowing how to move from cover to cover and not exposing yourself.

One major difference. Canada has had more Intel and data integration with the US for much much longer than Iraq or Afghanistan. This means palantir and other Intel gathering companies have far, far more shit on Canadians that might have an inkling of resistance against the US, and do not think they will spare or be nicer to Canadians. They will absolutely round up everyone they can or their families. It will actually be harder for Canadians to fight back than the others.

I wanted to write this about Carney (who I voted for) I do not like him at all. I do not the degradation of freedoms, benefits, and democracy and increased surveillance that he is pushing for.

But that being said. I do not envy his position. He is perpetually caught between a rock and a hard place. As much as I hate Trump, the only thing I would hate more is actually being forced to deal with the guy. Carney did a lot of concessions that I do not approve of, but I honestly do not have a concrete plan for what to do.

I immigrated to Canada in 2007 as an adult and it felt great here. Cost of living and housing was manageable and I felt like I could have a great future then it started going to shit almost immediately and when 2020 hit even before COVID it started feeling like absolute shit and it has been getting worse and worse. Benefits cut and things getting more expensive.

Canada’s position and reputation has improved, but that is just because of how fucking HATED the US and Trump is right now.
