Pretty much this. The early years of the Nazis also looked like heavily armed thugs destroying the apparatus of state and assaulting “wrong” people in the streets, mostly communists and other leftists.

I was about to say, just from the few BD toys I can identify, that’s an easy $4-600 depending on size.

21·1 day agoYeah, what they want is a permanent slave class. Preferably, they won’t have to pay us - just maybe toss us some bread and water and give us a cave or a shack to live in. Think all the people that live below Immortan Joe’s base in Fury Road.

History Memes@piefed.social•I know re-enacting history is a great way to teach it to kids, but maybe this was a little too far...

9·3 days agoNot even ICE vests. These guys usually wear random plate carriers that can be had (in replica form) for about $30 from an airsoft website. Fake plates to make it look right are another $10. You’ve been able to get official-ish-looking federal agency patches for years, $3-15 depending on how close you want it to look. Carry a pistol (about $200) in a drop-leg holster and you’ll fool enough people if you’re forceful enough and yell a lot.

I had a coworker who came in with a headache. Our receiving dock manager overheard and gave her what my coworker thought was a couple aspirin. Turns out the manager gave her a pair of Vicodin tabs without telling her. Needless to say, she wasn’t doing anything for most of her shift and the receiving manager was kindly told to GTFO.

News@lemmy.world•US airlines cancel flights after aviation agency directive to cut air traffic
3·5 days agoSlow trains here in the US generally don’t go over 50, and the rails in a lot of the network don’t support over 30MPH. Additionally, rail traffic gets prioritized to freight, because we don’t actually do PST (Precision Scheduled Timetables), so you might be waiting for hours on a stopped train so a freight train 10 miles up can unload.

23·5 days agoThat’s my point. He is enough of a fan to know the connotation. He knows what the name implies, and company names are a deliberate choice that imply things about that company.
Actually it’s dumber and worse, because he went on to expand that he believes any leftist leader will just kangaroo-court people they don’t like.
You know, the whole “weaponization of justice” thing that Trump has done over two terms now.

A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•The Typical First-Time Homebuyer Is Now 40 Years Old, a Record High
2·6 days agoWhile this is true, job opportunities for remote markets are drying up. Those markets in rural areas went big because everyone was working remote, and you can do that from anywhere with an Internet connection. Now that everyone is being forced into RTOing, people are selling those nice little rural homes to move back into apartments in the city, or else trying to find business opportunities or something out in the country.
The issue is power transmission. Wireless transmission has repeatedly been shown to be highly energy intensive and prone to severe loss the further you’re sending it, plus you still have to have a way to pick it up and convert it to electricity at a useful rate on the ground.
If you have a “solution” with “if we can solve the other parts of the problem”, you do not have a solution.

All Cops Are Bastards@quokk.au•Moment ICE crash into car before removing and arresting US citizen driver
3·8 days agoCan’t sue a government entity for damages in commission of their duty, IIRC, even if the entire stop is erroneous. Since ICE basically has carte blanche, I can’t see an insurance lawyer that would bother to try. It’s why you don’t see people successfully going after cops for raiding the wrong home - it doesn’t hold up legally in most states.
