Really not surprising. In the US these type helmets are literally just meant to appease helmet laws. Most of the people who actually buy them would much rather not wear anything at all. And if you think that’s stupid, well, you’re exactly right.
That’s good to hear. I just recently ordered some of that phase change material for my 6700 XT. I’m hoping it’s going to rein in the temps a bit. I’ve also seen my card hit 110°C tjunction which is decidedly not excellent.
There are native Linux games, as few and far between as they are.
I’m not ignoring it. I even said it was great in my original post. I just don’t believe putting all of the eggs in the Proton basket is a good idea.
No mention of thermals. My RX 6700XT is like a freaking space heater. I hope things have improved on the AMD side in that regard.
The argument that Proton purely drives Linux adoption without disincentivizing native development ignores how publishers behave in reality. Instead of inspiring studios to eventually target Linux as a primary platform, Proton gives them an excuse to ignore the platform entirely while washing their hands of compatibility when updates break things. There are already SEVERAL cases where developers have pushed updates to games that worked in proton previously but no longer do. For Honor, Rust, Apex Legends, GTA V to just name a few. When developers treat Proton as a convenient accident rather than a target, it doesn’t pave the way for a native future. It creates a volatile ecosystem where a single background update can permanently strand players on an unsupported island, with the studio refusing to spend a dime to fix it. Proton keeps Linux users as second class citizens.
I mentioned this as a potential issue with Proton when it first started blowing up and was largely dismissed. It’s great that it works. It’s really amazing on Valve’s part what it can do and the gap it bridged. The problem is that it does NOT incentivize developers to support Linux natively. In fact, it does the exact opposite.
EDIT: For those who don’t see why this is an issue - Proton means in the eyes of developers linux users are mostly second class citizens. There are already several cases of developers pushing updates that break proton compatibility and the developers simply shrug their shoulders and move on.

The pheromones thing does have some basis in science, but it mostly applies to ANIMALS who use scent as the PRIMARY INDICATOR they’re biologically ready for mating. As humans we have the ability to communicate verbally which kinda superscedes any need for that mechanism. That said, I have noticed that after dating someone and being around them for a period of time you do start to form a positive correlation between their natural scent and happiness, security, etc. Note that’s natural scent, not sweaty-ass BO. I’ve had several partners that would love to “smell” me and tell me I smell good even though I wasn’t wearing any specific colonges or other fragrances. It takes time for that positive correlation to form though, so It’s probably not going to do you any good on your first fucking date.

For those out of the loop: He’s not a straight up Nazi supporter like DHH, but Lunduke is vocally anti-LGBTQ and commonly criticizes LGBTQ support from other distro maintainers. Notice the “No weird politics” line in the screenshot on his Github. That’s what he’s referring to.
The point isn’t that an easy option for the bypass exists, but that a bypass is required at all. It shouldn’t be.
It’s mostly the Harley-Davidson crowd that uses them, so that should give you a pretty good idea of the type of person we’re talking about, haha.
