Programming@programming.dev•I got paid minimum wage to solve an impossible problem
1·3 天前In retrospect it’s pretty obvious that the most efficient way to traverse a grid would include no diagonals. Every time you move on an axis you move to a cell in 1 unit distance of travel. Why would you ever choose to move to a cell in √2 unit distances when you could move 1 unit distance to achieve the same result of covering one more cell?
Israel kills 5 year old in airstrike. “Killed by” is still passive

Communism@lemmygrad.ml•How do you even argue with a DemSoc who simply refuses every receipt you handed them to debunk their their literal right wing propaganda?
20·8 天前Reactionary is a protected class and killing them off is genocide /j

Economic collapse doesn’t matter if you:
-
Own the means of production to sustain your way of life
-
Have fully automated it
-
Can protect it using automated security
Which is what billionaires are going for. They do not care if economic collapse leads to billions of deaths, as long as they live in an automated utopia themselves.

It is about the prospect of profit. If you can make a machine that puts everyone out of a job, the profit is literally infinite. The same or better productivity output with zero labour cost input. You would have to be out of your mind not to invest in the infinite money machine.
Unfortunately (fortunately?), the infinity money machine is not possible with LLMs. These bullshit generators are a dead end in AI tech. But nobody with investor money believes that yet.
Most of the water use for corn isn’t necessary either, because nearly half the corn we grow gets burned in engines in the form of corn ethanol mixed into gasoline.
I’ll say that again because it is an unfathomable stat. Nearly half the corn the US grows gets burned to make cars go. That represents 40x the water use of AI if OP is to be believed about the 1/80th stat.

7·14 天前Actually I’m Canadian and it is literally enshrined into law that an apology is not an admission of guilt.
Socialism is when the government does stuff. The more stuff it does, the more socialister it is. And when the government goes a whole lot of stuff, that’s communism.

Ask Lemmygrad@lemmygrad.ml•Why, exactly, are the Western bourgeoisie so evil and fucked up?
251·17 天前Capitalism rewards greed (or more accurately capital accumulation). It doesn’t reward evil, evil is a side effect of prizing capital accumulation above any moral framework. Like the paperclip maximizer, capitalism is cold, calculating, and without morals, resulting in one thing: maximization of profit.
If, in some parallel universe, the best way to maximize capital accumulation were to ensure well-being for everyone (stay with me here), then that is what the bourgeoisie would do. They are not evil, they are amoral.

chat@hexbear.net•how do you avoid getting blackpilled/paralyzed by climate changeEnglish
22·17 天前This binary catastrophe/non-catastrophe dichotomy is a myth and actively harmful propaganda promulgated by the fossil fuel industry. Yes it is too late to prevent the terrible, irreversible effects of climate change.
But every additional tonne of CO2 makes the effects even worse. It’s not like “oh, we’ve locked in catastrophe, we can throw up our hands, there’s nothing left to do.” No, it’s a gradient of severity, and it gets worse the less we do.

China News@news.abolish.capital•China’s record-smashing maglev achieves 0-700km/h acceleration in less than 2 seconds
2·18 天前Assuming constant acceleration, that’s literally 0 to 60 in less than 15 feet. Get inside, jump, and by the time you hit the inside of the train (or rather it hits you), you’re a puddle.

China News@news.abolish.capital•China’s record-smashing maglev achieves 0-700km/h acceleration in less than 2 seconds
1·18 天前For two seconds, it’s survivable while maintaining consciousness, and the direction is especially important. 10 G’s down is particularly effective at inducing unconsciousness because it’s literally pulling oxygenated blood down from your brain. 10 G’s towards your back is going to be extremely uncomfortable, but the blood is more or less going to be ok.
Only in America though. 21 is different in different countries

Technology@lemmygrad.ml•The “China can’t do GPUs” narrative is collapsing in real time
10·21 天前I’d be interested to see if that translates to real world performance. Intel and even AMD to some extent have struggled with stable drivers that can deliver all the raw performance of the cards as soon as maybe 10 years ago, or less than 5 in the case of Intel in particular.
And over a hundred comments. Where the hell did all this come from?

That’s why OP specified “participating in genocide.” That’s how language works. They didn’t say “protesting against synagogues” they said “protesting against synagogues participating in genocide”, a subset of synagogues.
