Music seems like it’s followed a similar trajectory of most things where it’s become more centralized and mass marketed. Music has to appeal to the masses for studios to pick it up. So there is an incentive to find music that appeals to the most people and turns off the fewest.

Similarly, you have a handful of studios telling you what is “good” and pushing it. Even if it isn’t great, it’s good enough that people listen and then they can create the hype behind it where it might not organically exist.

Some music bubbles up organically from independent artists but quite a bit is mass marketed and produced by big studios. And they have the money so they can choke out smaller artists.

The issue with the filibuster,now, is that it’s too easy. It needs to be hard like the old days.

Ironically, because it’s so easy we actually don’t even see filibusters often anymore. It’s usually the threat of a filibuster that stops legislation in its tracks. If it was harder, where you stood for days, then it might not actually stop legislation. At least it would be brought to force the issue.

You should have to earn it.

I’m sure the geriatric core of our Congress will thrilled to have to stand for hours to prove their points.

I think if you do allow 8 character passwords the only stipulation is that you check it against known compromised password lists. Again, pretty reasonable.

School is usually cancelled because the schools are often polling locations.

It makes it all the more dumb to not have it as a national holiday.

I assumed it was a Dem sign then I saw who sponsored it, then I assumed it was a joke, then I realized that no, it’s real and they are just that deluded.

People get annoyed that “people hire their friends”, but the reality is, when you have a sea of random people all lying in various forms on resumes, HR on job postings, etc it’s so much easier and usually better for a company to have ‘vetted’ candidates proposed by current employees. Ie networking.

It’s still the best way to get a job even with all of this fancy HR algorithm bs.

More like: big money and corporate lobbying is ruining democracy. These are just the big boys.

I’m not being flippant but how else would or should I control my smart plugs and lights? Or set a timer with a voice command? Get my devices set up for “movie time” or control music ?

I paid for the Mycroft and that was a flop and they are now out of business.

Former presidents dont typically get involved in presidential politics(especially of their own party ) after they leave.

They’ll typically stump for candidates in their own party if they were a popular former president.

You could argue that his lack of involvement with Trump’s campaign is pretty telling.

I grew up in a religious household. My parents made me go to church and youth group until about 16-17 when I pushed back (still had to go to church but not youth group).

I was always more skeptical of it all. Even as a kid I remember having these “wtf, that doesn’t make sense. So dinosaurs were…on the ark?”

Anyway, after a couple decades of separation from it all you realize how absolutely bonkers religion is. The amount of mental backflips you need to make for it to make even a little sense is borderline insanity.

It’s crazy how otherwise very intelligent people just…go with it and never challenge it. Then will fight with you if you challenge it.

I feel like you all are misplaying your hands. Find contractors that work for the govt.

They can bill the govt much higher rates because you have a PhD. They don’t have to pay you the extra. You could literally tell them that. Pay me at a junior rate and keep the difference until I prove I’m worth more.

You’d be straight revenue/profit for them. and it gets your foot in the door and you start getting actual experience.
