traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns@hexbear.net•My kid’s friends keep asking me to use their deadnames in front of their parentsEnglish
35·4 天前I do see the legitimate concern with getting to know the parents and knowing something personal about their kids that they don’t -who knows how they’d react down the line - , but fuck 'em it’s their problem for their kids not feeling safe to be who they are at home. If the parents would have a bad potential future reaction to it, that proves the kids are right to be making this request. I know it’s easier for me to say this not being in your situation but it is my measured advice.
This reminds me of the situation where cities or school districts in “liberal” states are passing laws that essentially require teachers to out trans and GNC students to their parents

news@hexbear.net•US began striking Iran at 12 pm eastern time on September 1; Trump threatens to hit Iran with a large attack that will leave "very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran"English
6·10 天前Apologies for this being crass given the human impact of war and fuel price increases especially for developing countries; anyone holding oil ETFs wanna share their thoughts on a price to sell? It looks like crude oil futures hit ~$110 a couple times in April and May.
It seems the paper price has been heavily manipulated by the US govt shorting oil and jawboning about negotiations, but that is wearing thin given facts on the ground and the SPR drawing down.
V nice find. That cover sure looks crisp in print. I only got around to finish reading that this year lol
The fake Trump ad libs are better than what the POTUS can come up with these days :( we used to be a country.

Chapotraphouse@hexbear.net•["welcome to the jungle" news] Trump suggests cattle ranchers could bypass USDA-inspected meat plants [full text inside]English
31·13 天前Covering the cyclospora outbreak, crop scientist and former NC ag commissioner candidate Sarah Taber “Farm2Taber” was explaining how the USDA inspections are already so lax and industry captured that companies basically rely on 3rd party inspections to make sure the veg they’re buying are actually not going to make their customers sick. Or it comes down to state health departments that actually have rigorous track and trace programs.
So the reason Taco Bell was one of the first companies to report where the bad lettuce was coming from was because they have money invested into to tracking where their produce is coming from and winding up. And it wasn’t until folks in one of the great lake states (I think Michigan but don’t hold me to that) started getting sick and their state health department went into action that a proper epidemiology picture started to emerge for that region.
The federal regulators are already in the pocket of big industry, and our top civilian leadership wants to make it worse!

32·13 天前Certainly not. And what’s the takeaway supposed to be from his anecdote - that he should have triangulated his opposition to the Iraq invasion??
Edit: I wonder if OOPs perspective is a symptom of cognitive dissonance. America is the best freest country in the world and our democratic elections are perfect, but W Bush still got two terms and invaded Iraq. So to avoid squaring the reality that USA does bad things, the liberal mind palace insists that liberals are not voting and campaigning in just the right pandering compromising way.

32·20 天前I remember in the 00’s or maybe even late 90’s being at family functions this one cousin and his dad would frequently bring up working women getting pregnant like it was a BFD and the worst oppression of the sMaLl BuSiNeSs owners who employed them. What an odd thing to focus on.
Cribbing notes from someone’s tweet I saw earlier today about this notion of Hegseth “hiding” something everyone in the admin knew e.g. the destruction of the naval HQ in Bahrain;
The lib establishment won’t criticize the war directly because they would be and eventually will be cheerleading for the same war with Iran when their time comes, so they go for this weak ass process criticism or blame particular executors of the war.
The dems are just as bloodthirsty and pro war and they don’t even have the guts to full throatedly (giggity) voice opposition to a politically unpopular war that will only become more disastrous as time rolls on. Or maybe they think it’ll work itself out and they don’t want to eat their words if US-IS can somehow conjure up a W, God forbid dem leadership express any principled stances.

History@hexbear.net•Male Neanderthal pelvises resemble those of modern females, challenging decades-old assumptionsEnglish
13·23 天前Which is bass ackwards, right? IIRC my anthropology other animals and even other great apes have nowhere as difficult childbirth as humans. Wide birthing hips is the norm in the animal kingdom, being bipedal I think favors narrower pelvic structure, and of course baby humans have big ol’ noggins for their big ol’ brains. Even delivering them while their skulls are still soft is still a harrowing balancing act.
But it had not occurred to me to think of it in this light, that narrower male hips evolve because being even more better at walking is an advantage with no cost because males aren’t the ones delivering babies.

Tim Pool’s “sources tell me he’s stable, please God” was an unintentional banger of a tweet.
