Le signal vidéo et encodé par modulation de fréquence, comme la radio FM et le son modulé en amplitude, comme la radio AM. C’est à dire que la valeur du signal vidéo analogique à un instant T est représenté par la fréquence du signal modulé à l’instant T. Maintenant sûr le disque, il n’est possible que d’encoder 2 valeurs de signal, dans le LaserDisc, le changement de valeur (front montant ou dessendant) encode le moment où le signal modulé en fréquence passe le threshold.

À partir du disque, pour retrouver les signaux analogiques à envoyer sur la télé il faut:

1. Lire les impulsions sur le disque
2. Reconstituer le signal modulé en fréquence à partir des impulsions
3. Démodulé le signal pour obtenir les signaux vidéo et audio séparés

Ce qui est le plus étonnant pour moi avec ce format, c’est qu’il utilise un encodage analogique (et non pas numérique comme sur un CD ou DVD). C’est bien 2 niveaux logiques gravé sur le disque (ON/OFF) mais non pas pour représenter des données binaire, mais pour reconstituer un signal analogique de type PAL ou NTCS.

I don’t hate the look of it. I think they took a bold risk with the style, making the car stand out. The point, I think, was to make the door scratch and bump resistant. I think many are turned off by the plastic-y, cheapo look.

I upgraded from Nvidia 1060 to Radeon 5700xt second hand when DOOM Eternal came out in 2020. I haven’t dare to look at the GPU prices new or second hand since. DOOM the dark ages can wait at the end of my backlog. At the pace I’m going right now, I’ll revisit it when I reach retirement age.

In low speed it’s inaudible from a meter away. High speed is pretty loud.
