Yes I know its IGN but I thought it was a pretty decent vid in regards to some industry reactions to Baldurs Gate 3.

Did they do this with DOS2? Because the quality level is very similar.
I havent played DOS2 but from what I heard its a very good crpg. There is one big difference between it and Baldurs Gate 3 though- Production values. Baldurs Gate 3 simply by being a more cinematic experience will cater to a larger audience despite being a nerdy crpg. Plus DnD does have kind of a renaissance and the name Baldurs Gate still carries some weight.
The big difference with BG3 are the cutscenes, feels more like a Bioware game at times and appeals to people who enjoy that
It’s definitely more weighted towards the Xbox 360 era of Bioware than the original Baldur’s Gate era, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
If it was more like the original Baldur’s Gate and less like Mass Effect 2 I probably wouldn’t be playing it lol
But the original Baldur’s Gate is soooo good!
Facts. I don’t play video games anymore and I haven’t for at least a decade, but I bought Baldur’s Gate 3 purely for nostalgia purposes. Baldur’s Gate was the shit back in the day.
In general though I do think that the 5e system is much better suited to making an engaging video game. I really like that they’ve made it actually turn based vs having to pause every 2 seconds in combat to micromanage. Although I do constantly find myself instinctively pressing space to try to pause the game…
Glad I’m not the only one. I feel like I need to remap space because it’s the skip turn button.
I dinked around with BG 1 and it was clearly really good but damn the age shows and it can be tediously confusing. I didn’t really know what to do and I didn’t like how you start off with like 4 hp against enemies that do like 1-5 damage or whatever it is. I get that I’m supposed to wait before doing anything really valiant or whatever but it just never clicked. It was impressively deep though
The voice files were insufferable in BG1.
“SO I KICKED HIM IN THE HEAD UNTIL HE WAS DEAD! NYEHEHEHEHEHEH”
“SO I KICKED HIM IN THE HEAD UNTIL HE WAS DEAD! NYEHEHEHEHEHEH”
“SO I KICKED HIM IN THE HEAD UNTIL HE WAS DEAD! NYEHEHEHEHEHEH”
“SO I KICKED HIM IN THE HEAD UNTIL HE WAS DEAD! NYEHEHEHEHEHEH”
“SO I KICKED HIM IN THE HEAD UNTIL HE WAS DEAD! NYEHEHEHEHEHEH”
“SO I KICKED HIM IN THE HEAD UNTIL HE WAS DEAD! NYEHEHEHEHEHEH”
“SO I KICKED HIM IN THE HEAD UNTIL HE WAS DEAD! NYEHEHEHEHEHEH”
BG2 though was classic.
“Oh, Very well, hai ya!”
