Because riding my bike 11 miles to work in 95 degree heat with unhealthy air to breathe is totally an option! I’d rather take my mega-bro-dozer pickup, in case I need to buy 1000lbs of mulch… /Sarc
Well, they are building toll roads everywhere and punishing electric cars with unreasonable registration fees.
Truth be told, i’m somewhat on the fence about tolls. Charges the actual users vs ‘everybody at random’. Generally I’m against them tho, as it tends to punish lower wage earners a lot more than higher wage earners. The economics of it tend to skew richer people to move to areas with more tolls tho, as they take that cost into account as a smaller portion of their overall budget.
My problem with these new Texas toll roads is that they’re subsidized with public money but privatized so ntta keeps the cash. Classic tactics of privatizing profit while making losses a public debt.
Lunacy. How about regulating some companies as well then if we’re trying to tone down our CO2 footprint.
How dare you blashpheme Texas’ lord and savior… checks notes… big business!
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Texas officials are urging residents in some areas to use different modes of transportation other than their cars on Friday as ozone pollution in the state reach concerning levels.
“Atmospheric conditions are expected to be favorable for producing high levels of ozone pollution in the Houston, Galveston, and surrounding areas on Friday,” the alert posted by the National Weather Service (NWS) said.
“Elevated levels of ozone—the predominant summertime pollutant—are likely to result in poor air quality in the afternoon and early-evening hours,” the alert said on the NWS website.
"Ozone air pollution can cause respiratory health problems, including trouble breathing, asthma attacks, and lung damage.
Children, older adults, and people with asthma or COPD may be more sensitive to the health effects of ozone."
People also can conserve energy by setting their air conditioners to a higher temperature and limiting the use of gasoline-powered equipment, such as lawn mowers.
