This was one of those games with prerendered backgrounds and polygon based foregrounds/props like Resident Evil 1 - 3, Final Fantasy VII - IX, etc.

When I emulated the gamecube version I had to lock it to 640x480 or the 2D/3D elements were clearly running on different layers.

How did the remaster turn out?

Can anyone tell me if it’s worth playing now, if you never played those games when they came out and don’t feel nostalgia while playing them?

Probably one of my all-time favorite RPG. It’s a good classic RPG with good graphics and music. The gameplay is good and unique as well, but I remember from my first playthrough back in the days that it took me some time to get used to it. The game is not easy at all (because 2/3 bosses in the game are very hard).

It’s important not to make a big pause when playing this game. The gameplay starts slow and becomes very fast at some point. It is so unique that, if you stop and play again after a month or so, you will likely have a hard time to become fast enough again (when I played it for the 1st time when I was young, I did this mistake and had to start the game from the beginning).

I can’t comment about the 2nd game because I never played it.

I bought the original on GCN back in the day because I was attracted to the fantastic design. I had never seen a card-battler before and was really caught off card when I actually started playing. That said, I ended up really enjoying it and have been wanting a remake ever since iPads became a thing.

I think card battler games have come a long way since then, but it’s not bad after you learn it. And it’s nice to have a long, storied RPG to play instead of just rogue likes.
