I saved an HP Procurve 2610 switch from garbage and I am trying to get it setup. I able to get connected to it with a serial cable and move around the menu but that is as much as I understand about these things. I would like to setup a VLAN but have never worked with them before so totally lost. I did try searching for anything related to setting this up but have not had much luck.

Is there anyone that could at least give me some direction on how to do this or if it is a little over my head. TIA!

So if I am understanding this correctly VLAN is 2 separate LANs that are unable to communicate and network bridge is used to communicate VLAN 1 and VLAN 2. And to keep work separate from play you can use VLAN without a network bridge to keep things secure? Does that make sense.

Yep, that’s pretty much the size of it.

Vlan 1 and Vlan 2 are separate and distinct, cannot communicate natively, and must be “joined by a router,” or as you call it a Network Bridge. (Tho, technically Bridge and Router are distinct concepts in networking)
