“We love Jon. Jon did three of the best Spider-Man films ever for us. He’s got lots of things going on now. So we’ll probably be looking for somebody else, just because he’s busy.”
Hmm, for me, this quote is just standard HR talking about ending a work relationship in a way where both parties look good after reading 🤷🏻♀️
Looking around online Jon Watts doesn’t look that busy. That being said I imagine most directors would consider a trilogy of films as a completion of their work. I can’t think of any directors who worked on 4+ large scale films back to back to back to back.
Plus he’s over doing some Star Wars right now, so it’s not like he’s far away from Disney.
I thought Jon Watts was excited to do a more “standard” Spiderman story for 4. Like there were a bunch of ideas he wanted to do but couldn’t because of the overarching story and themes he had to follow.
Maybe marvel don’t want him to do his own thing and they want a director that will just do what marvel wants it to be, to the T.
I guess Jon could possibly still be involved in the script without directing?
