Hello,

I’ve installed Ubuntu 24.04 on my original MS Surface Pro tablet and it works very well except for a few flaws here and there. I’ve heard KDE Plasma has better touchscreen support and features so I decided to give it a whirl using a live USB key.

So far so good, but there’s only one really crucial part that I’m missing: an on screen virtual keybaord. This doesn’t even come out of the box with the distro?

SO far I’ve tried onboard but the damn thing segfaults seconds after being opened.

Do you have any recommendations for on screen virtual keyboards in KDE Plasma? Preferably something QT based that integrates well with KDE.

    This is relevant to my interests. Onboard feels like a keyboard from 2015 - I miss the Swype functionality from the Windows virtual keyboard just too much ;_;

      Yeah the windows keyboard is great. Plus the word suggestion is also a good feature to have.

      I’ve read something about QTVirtualKeyboard but apparently that’s just a plug-in or a library? Something you can call when programming widget’s I suppose, to bring up a virtual keyboard? But there’s mention of word suggestions and stuff. It’s not clear.

      Isn’t there a plasma mobile? Shouldn’t that contain a virtual keyboard?

        I’ve read something about QTVirtualKeyboard

        QTVirtualKeyboard is currently not functional for terminal use, as it lacks essential keys like CTRL and Tab. However, if you don’t need to use the terminal, it should work well.
