Did you use your package manager and dkms? You need to recompile the driver hook with each kernel update.
I’ve had Nvidia cards since the Riva TNT2 and it’s been reasonably smooth sailing… 🤷♂️
That doesn’t sound remotely like “smooth sailing”…
