When voters are asked whether they are more inclined to support a candidate who backs transgender rights or one who opposes them, voters overwhelmingly choose the candidate in favor of transgender rights, by a margin of 21 points. This trend holds true among Independents, with a 19-point preference. Even 22% of Republicans indicate they are more likely to support a candidate who favors trans rights—a significantly higher percentage than the share of Democrats who would back a candidate opposing them.

Furthermore, voters showed frustration with the wave of anti-trans advertisements. When asked if they thought political attack ads against the transgender community have gotten mean spirited and out of hand, far more voters agree than disagree (+28 points). This finding holds true for independents (+23 points) as well, with even 31% of Republicans finding that there were too many political attack ads.

    as it turns out, most people have a member(s) of the LGBTQ+ community in their circle of family, friends, coworkers, etc. and ads calling them “enemy,” “vermin,” “trash,” or whatever the bigot propaganda is saying, doesn’t sit well. who would’ve fucking thought…

    GOP once again, in trying to give everyone a target to blame their shitty lives on, did a fucking stupid

      Yep my youngest son is gay, and my middle son dates a tran male. So yes we are sick of the fucking hate. That shit works on the Maga fuckers but rest of us don’t that kind of hate in our hearts.

    I’m not American, but I was watching a sports stream yesterday and it was a US based stream. There was a pro-Trump political ad that was going on about “transgender surgeries for illegal aliens” and all sorts of unhinged shit. Then it said something along the lines of “Kamala is for they/them, President Trump is for you”. Just some serious racist & transphobic nonsense.

    I wasn’t aware that such vitriolic ads were so common on mainstream US TV. It’s fucking grotesque. Regulators would never allow that sort of stuff where I live, and rightfully so.

      Yes, transphobic ads are being blasted in a lot of places in the U.S. right now, and it seems to be upsetting some people. Despite most people not being motivated by transphobia, I think the Republican party has correctly identified that transphobia in the context of sports is a wedge issue that will stir up dissent between centrist Dems and progressives.

      another ad that ends with this that runs relentlessly in my state (the joys of purple states), is about how under Kamala as DA, trans inmates were given trans healthcare.

      All the ads are so vile, and its all hate against various minorities.

      Edit: Side thought since i never post, companies who choose to take their hate money and run their propaganda should be held accountable for stochastic terrorism, but of course so should public figures.

      Stirring up hate and getting people hate crimed and shit, there should be heavy penalties.

      Transphobia is common even in the Democratic party, but it’s not made into part of the political identity of the party and only appears non-existent compared to the outright trans genocide the Republicans are advocating.

        If the Dems chase the Overton Window to the right, they might make ‘common sense’ ‘safeguards’ against ‘abnormal behaviour’ part of the party identity. If being elected takes hate, I sadly believe that enough candidates will accept that as part of gaining power.

          Honestly I think entities like HRC are some of the main reasons this hasn’t been a bigger issue in the U.S. - luckily the Dems haven’t gone the way of the UK Labour party by embracing transphobia as a policy to win over voters. Luckily voters don’t seem that motivated by transphobia.

      Republicans have oversaturated the market for hate.

      Which, sadly, might be popular enough to win. We live in a world where saying “hang on, we should treat other living beings with decency” is, to some, a heretical position that must be denounced and even threatened with violence.

    A little while back I ended up using YouTube for a few minutes without an ad-blocker. Every single video had a transphobic ad.

    I didn’t think it was possible for me to hold any more contempt for advertising, but somehow they managed it.

      Yes, Republicans seem keen on purging voters and making it harder to vote, but the key take-away here is that Republicans probably won’t win elections with anti-trans rhetoric. It’s just not energizing or helping them politically, at least not electorally.
