It’s hard to define what “Hexbear” is anymore, with so many of the posts coming from random Lemmy instances. Our brand and subculture are diluted and it shows. A lot more confrontation and friction in threads. So it got me thinking. How can we recapture the authentic sense of what Hexbear is and do something nice for the world as a community?
If you’ve been watching India’s moon mission, you know how happy everyone looks in the footage. They’re so proud of their work and the whole nation is congratulating them. Actually the whole world. It’s a massive publicity boost and unites an otherwise polarised nation. Well what’s stopping us from doing that? Think of all the cool things we could accomplish with a space programme. Designing new rockets, exploring new galaxies, maybe colonising a planet or two as a forum. We would let everyone know what Hexbear represents and could mine asteroids for orbital factories that supply our fleet of ships. One thing we might build is a Dyson Sphere, or maybe even a generation ship to raise the next ten generations of our families together on our way to another solar system. I’m a plant scientist and could probably even grow lettuce in microgravity.
We can do this. I just ask that you trust me and send me the money to do so.
I have played Kerbal Space Program, which is like a PhD program in aerospace
Has the sequel stopped being a disaster yet? Actually got to the Mun and back in KSP2 but the aerodynamics were borked as hell last time I tried
Hahahaha nope.
It’s so bad that I’m honestly starting to think KSP2 was just a scam. KSP1 unmodded still has many more features and gameplay mechanics than KSP2 does. With mods, the difference is astronomical. KSP2 has slightly better graphics than unmodded KSP1, but with mods the difference is once again astronomical.
You can make KSP1’s graphics look massively better than KSP2 with mods, and even the most graphically taxing mods only require something around a 1070ti. KSP2’s recommended graphics card is an RTX 3080, and for all that power you get a shittier looking game and lower frame rates with stutters. That’s absolutely disastrous.
In the months following KSP2’s release, the daily total playerbase of both KSP1 and KSP2 halved according to steam statistics. A ton of players left KSP1 for KSP2, realized it was garbage, and were so soured by the experience that they never even returned to KSP1. It’s almost certain that the game will never have all the promised features because it’s most likely not selling well enough to continue development long enough at the very slow pace updates are coming out right now.
Edit: Almost forgot to mention the most comical part of this. After all that, KSP2 in early access costs more than KSP1 completed.
Sad!
I already wasted my money and put too many hours in to return it so will continue to monitor its miserable progress
