Now that a lot of 3rd party apps for reddit have shut down there have been loads of new users joining the various Lemmy instances. So who got here today and what has been your experience so far?
I’m here to help should you have any questions about Lemmy, lemmy.world or life in general (I can not really recommend that last one).
Anyway, welcome! Hope you enjoy your stay 😁
EDIT: I created seperated threads for this not too long ago but I think it’s useful to post them again.
- Some things might still be confusing to people, I read a comment below about someone not knowing how to browse content from different instances for example. I really suggest you read this post by lemmy.world admin @ruud which does a wonderful job to explain a lot of it.
- If you’re wondering what 3rd party apps there are available, this thread seems to list them all!
I replaced Apollo with Memmy on my board in the same place. I still have muscle memory to hit there when I’m bored, and scroll. Lemmy isn’t the same, and it’s not as good as Reddit in a lot of ways - but I’m loving seeing the enthusiasm for updates and progress. It’s really fun seeing things coming together. I view the recent stability issues as a great thing. It shows there’s a lot of interest in migrating.
Hopefully this place continues to succeed.
Related…this response went through on the first try. That hasn’t happened all day. Woohoo! 😅
Yesterday they were upgrading the server so I figure the delays were because of that. I am honestly curious about how all of it is running because I feel like I could perhaps be helpful. Though on the other hand, too many people in the kitchen doesn’t help anyone.
Hi @DV8 I don’t think some extra eyes ever hurt. Actually the admins of a few instances were working together for yesterdays lemmy.world update. You can read more on that in @ruud’s post on the subject here: https://lemmy.world/post/920294
There was even a zoom meeting during the upgrade. So next time you can probably join in if you’re interested! Once 0.18.1 is stable that’ll be the next one.
Anyway, it’s really cool to see that the people behind the different instances work together to better Lemmy as a whole instead of just “their” instance.
