Olivia Chow has been elected mayor of Toronto ending almost 13 years of right-leaning rule at Toronto City Hall and becoming the first woman and the first visible minority person to lead the city since amalgamation.
when we vote for mayor its a direct vote. so doesn’t matter if your ward goes “conservative” the vote will still count just as much as anyone else’s. we don’t use First past the post for mayoral elections thankfully.
For counselors because we do not have party affiliation at a municipal level so having proportional representation would be impossible as there is no way to count a vote for say Matlow (if he lost st pauls) to Brown as proportional seat for progressives.
on a provincial and federal level i 100% agree with you.
Really? Wow, consider me educated then. I was confused because CTV election tracker coloured and tracked votes by district which made me think it worked like provincial and federal votes. Very interesting, the news orgs can do better representing the data.
