The article doesn’t say NATO intentionally provoked Russia. The article says NATO didn’t give Russia exactly what it wanted and so Russia went to war. There is a difference between acknowledging that Putin has a narrative for why he invaded another souvereign country and saying you are the reason Russia invaded said country.

Please don’t lie in plain view. We can all read the article. So the whole “unproked” lie is exposed now and we know for certain that US/NATO was the cause of the war.

Please don’t lie in plain view. pindapinda is correct in his rundown. From the article:

"The background was that President Putin declared in the autumn of 2021, and actually sent a draft treaty that they wanted NATO to sign, to promise no more NATO enlargement. That was what he sent us. And was a pre-condition for not invade Ukraine. Of course we didn’t sign that.

The opposite happened. He wanted us to sign that promise, never to enlarge NATO. He wanted us to remove our military infrastructure in all Allies that have joined NATO since 1997, meaning half of NATO, all the Central and Eastern Europe, we should remove NATO from that part of our Alliance, introducing some kind of B, or second class membership. We rejected that."

            Thanks for clarifying that.

You forgot to post the next line, completely by accident I’m sure.

“So he went to war to prevent NATO, more NATO, close to his borders.”

So now we know. Had you ever heard of this peace treaty that NATO rejected before? I hadn’t.

What do you mean “peace treaty”? Saying, “please abandon the allies that are afraid of us invading them or we’re going to invade others before they can ask for help” is not a peace treaty.

It’s not that we don’t see the one sentence you insist is deliberately being ignored. We know that’s the reason Putin gave for his war in Ukraine, I said so in my original comment. Stoltenberg knows that’s the reason Putin gave, and he says so in his speech, which you quote. There’s no secret treaty being hidden from NATO’member citizens, it is simply not in our interest to make it easier for Russia to attack our members…

I don’t know if you’re just a Russian troll but if you honestly think this blatand land-grab is justified, but going on Lemmy to lie about an article with a click-bait title that we can all read says nothing new is not going to be enough to sway support or erode western democracy.

the allies that are afraid of us invading them

Nobody was afraid of Russia invading them. Which is why nobody wanted to join NATO, including Ukraine. Which is why the USA overthrew Ukraine’s democracy and made it a puppet state.

The war was provoked by NATO aggression, it’s been a huge success for the US, not so much for anyone else, including its " allies".

Just to clarify this, Russia didn’t like the idea of NATO being on their border so they…checks notes invaded a non-nato country to take it over and extend the Russian border up against checks notes again NATO countries?
