I’m trying to get an image to show up for the icon and banner for a community, but it seems image uploads are disabled. However I can not figure out how to link an external image for the community banner.

Does anyone have a solution to this? I see other communities with banners and icons.

    The only even slightly possible way I can think of would maybe be to have a mod from an instance that has uploads enabled do it. Not sure if that would actually work, and upload to their server then federate out, or if it would try and upload straight to the community’s home instance and fail. But if you have a friend or an alt account it might be worth a go?

      I will try to test this and see how it goes.

      Edit: It does not work unfortunately. It still attempts to upload the image the source instance instead of the local instance for banners and icons.

    There’s a file size upload limit on lemm.ee as far as I remember. I am not sure if it has been lifted, neither what’s the size, but it was something about 20 kB or something very small.

    Edit: oh I see now it has been completely disabled.

    Technically Lemmy supports this, but there’s no UI for it. I remember someone made a PR which adds a UI for external media for Avatars, Banners and such, but it hasn’t been approved yet.
