Pure electoralism. Once they secure themselves they’ll soften their position.

I think you overestimate the rationality of government decision-making.

Kyiv-Warsaw talks continue in bid to resolve trade dispute

Ukraine’s agricultural minister, in a phone call with his Polish counterpart, has agreed to work out a solution to a trade dispute that is in the interests of both countries, the Ukrainian agriculture ministry said on Thursday.

A US official who recently visited Poland dismissed suggestions that Mateusz Morawiecki’s comments were a sign of cracks in Western solidarity with Ukraine.

The official, who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity about the Polish prime minister’s comments, said:

We’re all human and there are moments of tension… But that doesn’t mean that there’s going to be some dramatic shift in alliance unity or even Poland’s fundamental position and determination to support Ukraine for as long as it takes.

Why would they? Ukraine did its job of bleeding Russia militarily so it stops being a threat to Poland. Now they can discard them and the more gets destroyed the easier for Poland to sweep in afterwards and get some pieces of the cake when rebuilding.

The polish government never cared about Ukraine.

No Kompromat needed, just PiS doing PiS things. Poland banned imports of Ukrainian grain (because PiS has a largely rural support base and the farmers don’t appreciate the competition), Ukraine filed a complaint with the World Trade Organisation, so now the Polish government is throwing what in political science is called a tamper tantrum.

Poland will have to pantomime anti-Russian rhetoric for domestic consumption, even if it aligns 100% with the Putinists. They can ramp up anti-German rhetoric (reopening the war reparations issue, making noises about “gender ideology” and “cultural Marxism” coming from across the border) and make the woke godless Germans the primary enemy of Holy Poland, though they still have to pretend to maintain defensive hostilities against the great bear to the east, even as they adopt the same policies and attitudes.

Don’t forget the always popular narrative of the EU being just Germany’s 4th Reich trying to destroy Poland as the only hurdle in their way to share control over Europe between them and their Russian buddies…

(Yes, I’m not exaggerating. That’s all from actual quotes in the last 12 or so months…)

Among the neighbours of Germany, Poland is just the most annoying (remember, Fr🤮nce is also a neighbour).
