Just wanted to share a laugh with you folks. As a guilty pleasure I sometimes engage with liberals on reddit.
I was replying to someone asking about socialism and of course someone comes by and starts talking about the famines in the USSR and China. After a couple rounds of replies the lib ends up citing this paper by Mark Tauger to prove that the early 1930s Soviet harvests weren’t that bad. For those of you who don’t know, Mark Tauger has done extensive research and published many papers to debunk the idea that the 1930s Soviet famine was man-made or a genocide. As far as I am aware of, he is literally the go to source for academic work disproving capitalist lies for this era. This libtard literally googled his claim, read the first few lines of a paper that came up, and tried to use it as an argument against the USSR.
Not sure what the rules here are but here is a link to the comment.
As an aside, I often put on my liberal hat when talking to these folks because I genuinely believe that there are liberals reading who can be reached. Please don’t crucify me for that :P
Crux of his remaining argument is also citing the incorrect number of deaths (and rising between the posts). If we take the official and most likely correct number, the death toll percentage is roughly equivalent to several previous famines.
