Carl Sagan was a Brooklyn-born American astronomer, scientist, cosmologist, astrophysicist, astrobiologist, author, educator, and theorist. He was interviewed by CNN’s Ted Turner in 1989 on many topics and talked about how humanity needs to evolve beyond greed and war.
Ted Turner then asked if Carl Sagan if he was a socialist.
Carl responded by talking about the US’s obsession with wasting money on defense projects instead of investing in its people, ending with “we are using money for the wrong stuff.”
Carl Sagan is one of the few people that give me optimism that science education and optimism can bring humanity forward. I don’t think it is actually that simple, but watching his public education programs and appearances really does give me some hope in humanity’s future.
