I am looking for a good FOSS keyboard with suggestions and the ability to add multiple languages.
I use OpenBoard most of the time and it’s good if you are more privacy focused.
Same. Except i had to modify it a little bit because I got used to Swift keyboard having suggestions on inputs that don’t support it by default.
Same here. It works well, and it actually was the only FOSS keyboard for which I managed to properly set up a Bépo layout like I wanted.
Is it possible with this keyboard to swipe instead of type?
If you install a fork of it with that feature, yes. I personally use this fork: https://github.com/erkserkserks/openboard
No, it’s not possible by now
I use FlorisBoard
Totally agree. You can customize it a load. It has a ton of functions even local spellchecking once setup
Second this. Tried a lot of keyboards when moving over to foss, and this one felt hands down the best for me.
I was following this for a while but see it hasn’t received an update in a year now, is it abandoned?
Development is still active, there just hasn’t been a new release yet.
I use AnySoft Keyboard. It is very configurable and has a lot of language options.
I use https://github.com/rkkr/simple-keyboard because it has the features “hold space and swipe to move cursor” and “hold backspace and swipe to delete”. You can add different languages. Which Android do you use? I’m curious because doesn’t any keyboard (android) allow you to switch languages?
I am on Android 13. Thanks I’ll give it a try!
I’d probably use it already if it supported emojies…
+1 for simple-keyboard
Another one that i use is Florisboard. It also supporta hold space and hold backspace. Additionally you can customize the layout and glide typing is available for english
Haven’t seen unexpected keyboard mentioned. Been using that for a few months now. Lots of keys, not many other features. With a compose key, it would almost be perfect. Hackers is my backup keyboard.
Vanilla GrapheneOS keyboard as per their guide.
I use AnySoftKeyboard, configuring it is a mess but it’s super customizable and one it’s set up it’s great.
Just the other day I discovered 8Vim and I’m exited to learn how to use it. It’s a little buggy and it doesn’t seem to support umlaut letters, so I can’t use it for my native language.
Others I use are Hackers keyboard (for SSH), Anysoft, and Jbak. Not sure if the last one is FOSS.
