It turns out I can do fuckall with my nh-d15 on my new setup. GPU wont fit full stop. Im very skeptical with trying to purchase nh-d15s this time around, as Im pretty sure I wont be able to use the offset mounting kit for it without running into the same issues that need that cooler to begin with.

Is there a cooler that is just straight up for am5 and cools like a champ? No fucking around with offsets and such. Can be AIO for all I care.

Turns out even U12A hangs over! There is no usable air cooler that I would put on a 600$ motherboard with a 600$ CPU. Even nh-d15s hangs over! What the fuck?!

Ended up buying Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420 for considerably cheaper than nh-d15. Get this: it has the offset ability as well.

Bro, are you building ITX? 😂

Glad you found a cooler that works. I have an ITX build, so I know first hand the difficulty of finding parts that fit.

Asus x670e gene is an M-ATX board but it is geared towards overclocking. They probably didnt take air coolers into account. It only has one x16 reeally close to the CPU. Also the ONLY PCIE-5 M-ATX board in europe.

I didnt expect this at all.

That’s good that the x16 is so close to the CPU, even though it’s been a headache. Physical distance does affect its performance (though by how much, I can’t say).

Good point of view, I missed that being upset all night. :D

I think the board is pretty well thought out when it comes to that. It has a ginormous SSD expansion card/heatsink, only 2 RAM slots as 4 is not really useful, reportedly very terrific VRMs. Though it had its price.

An mATX with two RAM slots? It really is sounding like an ITX board, lol. Is the primary SSD slot PCIe5 also?

Maybe. But on the other hand:

                1. Current zen4 CPUs have issues with 4 sticks.
                2. 4 sticks do not mean a substantial performance difference as it will use same amount of channels(maybe even worse as the clocks are lower?).
                3. Every singular RAM stick is already technically dual channel so 2 slots are already quad.
                4. 96GB maximal memory is supported now. Probably even more in the future.
                5. Also this board can overclock to and use 8000Mhz sticks without batting an eye. Although not that useful yet.

                There are 2 PCIe5 SSD slots and 1 PCIe4.
