I built a gaming PC out of an old Lenovo surplus tower for my kid a couple years ago. It’s been a solid machine, does what she asks of it. Currently it has a 2GB GTX 960 in it that I picked up cheap from my previous employer. To power it I stuck in a molex-to-4pin power cable. It’s been working flawlessly for 2 years now.

Today I ordered a RAM upgrade for it and was poking around at GPU options. To my dismay it seems like there’s nothing that would be a cost-effective upgrade for this system. I saw a local eBay listing for some mining RX570s for $60 but they require a 6-pin. A 4GB 1050ti is barely an upgrade, and 1650s are pricey.

I’m fully aware this system is probably about to get its very last upgrade with the RAM bump, and I should plan to build something new, but I’m wondering if there are options out there I missed?

Whatever you do, don’t try an adapter with more pins. Those Molex adapters are notoriously dicey. I’d recommend a new power supply instead, one with proper PCI Express power cables. Assuming that you don’t need one with proprietary motherboard power connectors, as is often the case with pre-builts like the ones Lenovo makes.
