For all of Donald Trump’s rhetorical innovations, personality quirks, and alleged criminal malfeasance, what has made him truly unique as a political figure is how much he has merged fan culture with American politics. It’s not unusual for Americans to idolize presidents—Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama are still actively revered by many—but no other president has inspired the same level of merchandise lines or themed car flags. A MAGA bumper sticker often isn’t simply a statement of loyalty; it’s a cultural signifier of community much like the dancing bear bumper sticker is for a Grateful Dead fan.

Nowhere is this more clear than at Trump’s rallies. He’s turned his campaign events into something that has more in common with a Bruce Springsteen concert than a Harry Truman whistle-stop tour.

“Seedorf said he’d “take a bullet for” Trump and that Trump was the only politician he’d commit such an act of self-sacrifice for. Of the former president, Seedorf said: “He’d do it, too, for everyone else.””

These people are mentally ill. It would be sad if it weren’t so terrifying

I feel it’s important to point out that gullible and mentally ill should not be conflated. He’s an easy mark for Trump’s rhetoric, a sheep eager to be fleeced. That doesn’t mean he has a mental disorder.

Stupidity is based on a lack of knowledge or awareness

When you are aware and enthusiastic about what you are doing and saying while pretending to be ignorant or misinformed … it’s malicious.

I disagree. Ignorance is based on a lack of knowledge or awareness. Stupidity is when you double down on what you think you know, and you’re not willing to be proven wrong.

Ignorance can be cured. Stupidity is too-often not.

Yeah, the only person Trump would take a bullet for would be his own reflection in a mirror and even then I’m not convinced. (This is, of course, assuming that Trump was temporarily granted the physical ability to jump in front of a bullet.)

He’s told his followers that he’s being indicted to protect them and they’ve bought it hook, line, and sinker. They really think that, without Trump, the Democrats would arrest all of them for possessing classified documents, financial fraud, trying to overturn an election, and trying to incite an insurrection.

Meanwhile, in the real world, the only reason they would be indicted for any of these things would be if there was evidence that they did any of this. For some, there is (e.g. the January 6th Insurrectionists), but for your average MAGA Republican? Nobody is going to file charges against them.

But still, they are convinced that Trump is protecting them somehow.

Trump would let an infinite number of people take a die if he got a fish delight a second faster. His supporters are not connected to reality.

The newlyweds saying “there’s no better place to have a honeymoon” made me almost choke on my sandwich.

My brother in Christ, she should be having her guts rearranged for a week straight on a beach somewhere. Not front row to this asshole.

I give that marriage 4-5 years tops.

As long as those two have bigotry, racism, misogyny and a shared will to worship a cowardly dictator in common- nothing will ever stop them.

Do people need to worship and idolize something? I don’t get it. What has captivated you? Why this rumbly sack of skin?

People like this seem to need to have someone who projects confidence and strength (at least as far as they see it) to follow. It eases their feelings of insecurity, which conservatives prey on.

I have reason to think that religion works the same way.

Some people do. For some of us we approached it rationally and safely keeping what we know at the forefront. Others fall to their knees at the sight of a con man

Bruce would be horrified at this comparison. Couldn’t they have said Ted Nugent instead?

It’s so he can bask in people cheering for him, I swear one of the videos I saw just had him smiling contently like he was a lizard enjoying the sun. It’s getting his narcissistic supply, the rest is secondary as long as the people love him and yell about it.
