    Ideas about the trailer :

It did not start with “War. War never changes” being said by Ron Pearlman. I don’t care how inapt it is, it’s a must include.

    CGI looks badly composited.

Tone of humour seems marvel-ish (first half of trailer)

Second half of trailer shows incredible world building

For some reason, John Boyega is playing Finn again?

Amazon makes it tainted, but priacy tiem.

Bad choice of music initially, with a nice recovery later on.

Todd Howard isn’t the seal of approval they think it is.

It seems interesting. Gotta look up what’s been said already about vault 33 already.

I was hoping for a “war never changes” moment, but it’s a slow thing, and this was short. In my mind they were right to leave it out. I’ll be surprised if it’s not included in the actual series somewhere.

For some reason, John Boyega is playing Finn again?

As much as people like to jerk themselves to his character in the sequels, he doesn’t exactly have much range. He played it very blandly, which allowed a lot of people to impose their own ideas of what the character represented.

It’s hard to judge something from a trailer, but everything I would want to see is here. There is action, blended with absurdism and humor. There’s blunt violence, but still nuance between characters. I don’t get the CGI complaints…we’re spoiled from giant budget marvel movies, this looks fine for a TV show. I think the vibes of desolate wasteland dotted with dense colonies comes through. The creatures look rad, the power armor looks rad. If the show can make the context switches from “absurdist humor” to “desolate depression” to “extreme badassery” flow well, I think this is gonna be a blast. And the music…I will always love Fallout oldies. This trailer made me pretty excited. Dogmeat is the perfect kind of dude that will make casual viewers excited (because dog) and deep fans excited (because Dogmeat). I’m hyped, and at this stage it looks VERY much like it’s NOT gonna be another Halo. I think without having a protagonist to get to choose different factions, it’ll be interesting to do a show with multiple protagonists as long as there is a satisfying enough ending that doesn’t require every faction to win.

So much over-acting really ruins shows for me. I mean, the casting is never the greatest in these kind of shows though is it. Maybe it’s just like that in the clips they chose for the trailer though and it’s more reserved otherwise.

Over acting is kind of part and parcel for any parody, which is what any fallout show would be.

I mean yes, but fallout seems to have been a lot more Airplane/Naked gun instead of Scary Movie/Not Another Teen Movie.

A kind of dry parody with absurd things played straight. Like the robot sherrif.

EDIT : One of the problems with a highly choice based narrative or presentation is that everyone has a different way the tone of the game goes based on what they did in their playthough. The zero int builds are more or less on par with the serious playthoughs.

To be fair, Fallout tries to maintain seriousness. It takes itself very seriously, even the humorous aspects, it doesn’t point itself out as absurd.

In my opinion, it better highlights the commentary the series is making by grounding itself in reality and using a sort of dark comedy to draw attention to the points it makes.

Fallout 1 did. Everything that came after absolutely was absurd. Harold with a tree in his head named bob, dogmeat coming back from the dead, porn shoots in new reno for fallout 2. Bethesda’s versions were a bit more tame than 2, but still off the wall. There exists some purists who only like fallout 1 for that reason. My favorite is fallout 2. I think fallout 1 was still trying to be wasteland, but after that the series became a parody. That doesn’t mean parody doesn’t make commentary, of course, because it does.

I honestly disagree a bit with that. 1 was a dark comedy, 2 was half dark comedy half absurd references, 3 was bleak absurdism, New Vegas was back to dark comedy, then 4 went to less dark absurdism.

In general, the classics and New Vegas better carried the serious tone, while 4 was pretty close to pure parody. Like 2, 3 seems split in half, while 1, NV, and 4 were more consistent in tone, though not necessarily with each other.

I think it’s because Fallout, as a world, is supposed to be an alternate version of our world, whereas this looks decidedly “Fallout.” Once it becomes far enough removed from our timeline, much of the commentary and worldbuilding ceases to be as relatable as before.

      Just my 2 cents.

Not sure including Todd Howard as a key factor for a Fallout series is a good thing, considering the drop in quality of lore within the Bethesda vs Black Isle/Obsidian games, but it looks “fun” at least. Will be cautiously pessimistic and hopefully pleasantly surprised.

This looks amazing! I was so excited just to see a radroach. I’m curious if they are going to call the dog Dogmeat or if it just happens to be a German Shepherd.
