President Biden’s video featuring clips from a Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) speech to tout his legislative accomplishments reached more than 30 million views in 12 hours after it was posted …
There are an infinite amount of important events, happening all over the world at this very moment. Life-changing moments in time for billions of individual people, all happening simultaneously. A video reaching 30 million views is not one of them. And yet this is what reaches the top of the popular political news lists.
Posting content doesn’t affect the sort of content that people get immediate gratification from. There are loads of posts all over the fediverse with important political news, but they’re not what people enjoy their reaction to, so they’re just not seen.
I have no problem with good news, or even just being amused at mockery of terrible opinions. But, if this is what gets our engagement then it’s no wonder humanity are up shit creek without a paddle.
The world is a backward place, but you’re overthinking it.
I don’t think this post is more than poignant politicking that is refreshing to see.
Its popularity is mostly reflexive of the geography and demographic of the current users of the fediverse when it was posted - and the ease of a one-tap stamp of approval.
Just curious: Which article should we read instead?
Yeah, I made an error. My interface called this community just “politics” and when I checked the instance I mistakenly assumed “politics@lemmy.world” was a global politics discussion, not US-specific. Other English-language news and politics communities are also dominated by US internal political links despite not being dedicated to that topic, so I didn’t notice this one was intentional. I’ll be more thorough in checking the sidebar in the future.
article you should read next
Well, even though I thought this place was for international stories, I’ll stick with the community’s theme to answer this.
The article on the first amendment lawsuit filed by Johnson and Johnson has potential huge consequences for US healthcare: https://lemmy.world/post/1734658
And for one from the same OP in the same community, the guardian article on AI in politics is a decent summary of some of the problems the US election is up against: https://lemmy.world/post/1786031
Or maybe most people with sense who can communicate in complete sentences don’t have the same PoV as you. Most of those like you are on twitter and Facebook yelling against a wall hoping to inspire other dimwits

Why does this have upvotes whilst the literal exact same comment immediately above it in my feed posted by another account has downvotes? I mean, come on. Also, like the replies to the other comment said, you can post links to important news if you would like to spread awareness. But I don’t think you will because you just want to complain about the libs owning MTG.
Edit: wait I just realized this is a reply to that comment and more I’m even more confused.
I’m not from the US and I find this video quite informative about the status of American politics. I’m not sure I understand exactly what you’re suggesting here.
This is a forum literally dedicated to POLITICS. That’s exactly what this community is made for.
On top of that, this has to be one of the greatest political “own goals” I have ever seen in the most confusing attempt at attacking the president of the most powerful country in the world in the middle of an election cycle. You bet your ass this thing is going to be seen by a hell of a lot more than 30M people by the time it’s made its rounds.
Oh, this is actually my mistake. I didn’t realise a community called politics@lemmy.world was just for US politics, but it does say so in the sidebar, i just didn’t scroll far enough. I thought it was for whole-world politics.

I don’t know if Jesus wept about this or not. If he’s real, he probably has more important things going on.
The historical Jesus was talking about all matter being made up of indivisible parts, the concept of evolution in relation to us being in a recreated version of a universe, and not giving money to religious organizations or letting other people get between you and the promise of an afterlife.
All of which ended up combatted by Paul and those coming after him, turning statements about the impermanence of all human creation into fulfilled prophecy of a temple being overthrown, or turning near verbatim quoting of Lucretius about failed biological reproduction being like seeds falling to the wayside of a path and only the seeds which survive being the ones to reproduce into a “secret explanation” about proselytizing.
Of all the things for the historical guy to weep about, Biden’s burn of someone criticizing helping others is hardly at the top of the list.

You have the same power to submit new posts that everyone else here has. Use it.

I would argue that posting content does indeed affect the sort of content on the fediverse.
You kind of sound like a cunt
I’d just like to point out, respectfully, that you’re here too. You could have just scrolled past, but you didn’t.

Probably, it wouldn’t be the first time.

Page views don’t matter, but visibility of an important message does, and page views are indicative of that.

finish reading the comment, theyre not the same
It’s not the exact same, he changed it to turn it around on the parent comment.

I mean, if you believe the stories, yeah, he probably wept. He got nailed to a tree. I’d have wept too.
That’s not why he wept, he went for a walk in the desert and realised that he was schizophrenic.
Jesus was a brown, schizophrenic, alcoholic, immigrant communist.
My kind of people. I am also unwelcome at any Christian church. Go figure.
