I’ve been helplessly struggling with intrusive thoughts since as long I can remember. They were hard to explain. They got more drastic since the start of my teen years and gets bad to the point they make me want to commit suicide.

They ruin about everything. Things I love, critical thinking, my perception of reality, my sanity, and my mental health.

I rarely tell people because I was afraid that they were going to give me very dull advice. And it was months ago when I finally found the actual term for these thoughts. Right now my mind feels numb and worn out. (Probably gonna edit this later.)

Having intrusive thoughts means you’re already quite deep in depression, i think you need to find someone to talk to and express your feelings. It needs to be someone with empathy, it doesn’t matter if said person doesnt provide feedback but having someone that LISTENS is already a huge step. Has to be presencial.

Bonus: join a club. Like learning an instrument, a gym, any sport, reading club, a language class, etc… But it has to be a presencial activity, not online.

Do you have any other mental conditions or are you neurodivergent? I think coping strategies would differ depending on, say, if you have OCD. Just my 2c.

Sorry if this is something you already know. I believe intrusive thoughts are commonly associated with ADHD, so if you aren’t already seeking ADHD treatment, that would be a good step if you have the means. I don’t have much more of use to add though.

I don’t know where you live, if you have to pay for a doctor’s visit, or if there are things that make a visit impossible, but it would probably be best to do so. What have you already done and tried? Intrusive thoughts have a huge impact on quality of life. They can be a symptom of depression, anxiety, PTSD and so on.

Have you ever felt something like dissociation or depersonalisation?

ADHD and OCD are commonly comorbid (I have both to some extent as well as autism). You might need OCD meds if the thoughts are that severe. Do NOT take ADHD meds before treating them somehow, stimulants typically make them worse
