Any fiction suggestions for a somewhat picky reader? The Expanse lasted me a long while but I’m finishing up the novellas now and need to start looking for something new. Not necessarily in the same genre.
I don’t have a lot of books under my belt as an adult, but some of my favorites have been Stoner by John Williams, Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts, East of Eden, Catch 22, Flowers for Algernon, and Harry Potter. Kind of all over the place I guess. 😅
I’ve also enjoyed John Williams’ other novels, Piranesi, The Things They Carried, House of Leaves, and Ender’s Game and the sequel.
Some books I didn’t really care for include Hitchhiker’s Guide (although I loved the first half), Lolita, Sharp Objects, Turtles All the Way Down, The Stand, The Road, 1984, and Fahrenheit 451.
I’m always overwhelmed trying to find something new, so thanks for any suggestions!
EDIT: Thank you all! It’ll be a bit daunting exploring all these new books but not nearly as daunting as if I had no guidance, so I really appreciate it!
Oh my god, book 8 was incredible! By far my favorite of the series. And yeah even though I’ve had such a fill of The Expanse I was still hungering for more by the end of it all.
I’ll check out your suggestions, thanks! I’ve always been vaguely interested in the Warhammer universe so maybe it’s time to give it a try.
I’m deep into 40k. If you want book recs let me know :).
Also I’m wrong. Bloodlines is by Chris Wraight not CZ Dunn
Yeah, shoot me your best book for someone new to the universe!
Tangentially related, but are there books for the “end times” Warhammer universe? (I forget what it’s called. The universe that the Vermintide games take place in.) I love that setting from what little I’ve seen of it.
Thats… A hard question to answer lol. Really depends on what you like and what you know about the setting.
My all time favorites are the nightlords trilogy, its about the nightlords (duh) which is a traitor space marine faction. Those books are 10/10. But I don’t know if they’re the best starting point without at least a vauge understanding of what the Horus Heresy was, what Space Marines are, and what the Imperium is.
Another fantastic book is assassinorum kingmaker. Also not super beginner friendly without imperium knowledge though. Its 40k mission impossible. If you want 40k band of brothers, Gaunts Ghosts is a fantastic series, and I’d say thats pretty beginner friendly. That and the Ciaphas Cain series. Bloodlines is the most beginner friendly but had the lightest 40k coat of paint.
That’d be AOS or Age of Sigmar. i Assume there are books but I haven’t read any of them.
Yeah my knowledge of the background lore is vague at best so it sounds like Bloodlines is my best bet. Thanks!
No problem! I think bloodlines is fantastic. A good way to get into 40k’s different factions is listening to [this](https://www.youtube.com/@Adeptusridiculous podcast. They do ~1hr episodes on factions/characters whatever. Great way to dip your toes in.
