I have recently upgraded my SSD in the Steam Deck to a 1TB one and created a 300GB Windows partition on it to be able to play Genshin Impact. So far so good, that is working as it should.
Before upgrading I had the 64GB model and used a 512GB SD card. On that I had Diablo 4 installed and it was working perfectly fine. But now I’m unable to get it to work again. I can’t remember which Proton version I used but pretty much any version I tried (including GE-Proton ones) is not working now that I’m trying to install and run Diablo 4 on the new 1TB SSD.
Did anyone else experience something like that?
Edit: As long as I’m in Desktop Mode I can add the “Battle.net Launcher.exe” to Steam and launch it with Proton Experimental and I’m able to install Diablo 4 but as soon as I go back to Gaming Mode the Battle.net launcher isn’t starting anymore.
Did you get the b.net installer and launcher mixed up? I did the same uphrade just 3 days ago, 1tb upgrade from 64gb. Diablo works fine for me from the new ssd. On my old 64gb I got them mixed up once and it was a headache to sort out.
Pretty sure I don’t have them mixed up. The installer exe is in my downloads folder and the launcher exe is somewhere deep in the Steam folder.
All I did: Add installer as Steam Game. Press play to install. Add launcher as Steam Game. Press play to open the b.net client and install w/e game you intend to. In both cases also force use of proton experimental or else it won’t start.
That’s exactly what I did, and it starting the launcher and installing Diablo 4 also worked once in Desktop mode but when I switch back to gaming mode and try launch it there it’s not working.
I had problems with the “basic” method of launching battle.net as a non steam game. The Lutris method worked for me.
Did you reinstall SteamOS or just clone it to the new SSD? I’ve seen people say if you don’t reinstall the OS properly when upgrading it can cause some issues but I’m not sure if those situations apply to what’s happening here
I did a full reinstall.
When I upgraded my SSD in my old 64gb model to just a 256gb, I had to reinstall all my games from scratch, including D4. Nothing would work otherwise that I had on my old SD card. After that I had no problems. When I get back from a concert this evening I can look and see what version of proton my D4 is running so that I can say with certainty that it is working and let you know
I’m not trying to run the games that I had on the SD card. I’m reinstalling everything from scratch.
