I think it’s good to have, I don’t think we should push it above renewables though, I think it should be in addition to renewables, to fill in the gaps. Batteries and pumped hydro would be better but they have drawbacks of course.
I doubt it’s going to happen here in Australia though. There is way too much public pushback. Our right wing party went into the last election trying to push nuclear as the solution to climate change and that election was a disaster for them.

In Australia the government just applies a very hefty tax to tobacco products, they banned vapes, you need a doctors prescription to buy them. But all these measures have done is create a huge black market for both, it’s really easy to buy cheap smokes or vapes. But we also now get all the lovely things that come along with that much criminal activity like innocent people being killed in turf wars.
The government legislation is still way behind so while in theory there are penalties for selling illegal tobacco it’s more of a slap on the wrist and it’s only the end sellers getting in trouble, the heads of the networks are shielded and raking in the money.
It used to be fairly trivial to be excommunicated but so many people were doing it that they tightened the rules because it looked so bad for them.

This time in 2016 my girlfriend and I had just finished University and just started working our first in-industry jobs. 2026 my now wife and I are still working in industry just different jobs both making significantly more money than in 2016. We sold the house we bought in 2016 for more than double what we paid due to the housing crisis pushing up house prices drastically in our area, we then built a house two years ago. Right now I’m sitting playing with our 8-month old daughter while my wife gets some extra sleep.
