  • It’s a bit silly that you say ‘goddammit neurotypicals’ because they don’t communicate their need to leave, but you don’t seem to communicate your need for them to leave either. Just tell them you’re tired and would like for them to leave/leave soon. I do this and nobody has ever been offended. I guess someone who’d get offended by direct communication like that wouldn’t be friends with me because I be like that.

  • I mean, it’s not just herd mentality. I’m just not willing to lock myself out of relationships because of my principles. It’s not my fault my mum can’t be convinced to ditch Whatsapp for signal. Not willing to give up communication with her.

Herd mentality would be if you did a thing because others do it even if there wouldn’t be any loss from switching to a better thing. It’s more complex if you’d lose out a great deal from the switch.

  • Hm, depends how ‘breaking down’ is defined. Because it usually doesn’t mean there’s no toxic substance left. Instead, plastic degradation often IS the formation of micro or nano plastics. In this case, it’s irrelevant how long this process takes without knowing how long it takes until there’s no toxicity left.

Also, if something is described as ‘biodegradable’, I wouldn’t blame a consumer for composting it. And if it actually poisons the compost, that’s net harm. So, it’d be actively harmful green washing.

  • I live in Austria, where it’s not even quite as nice (well, similar benefits, but no federal minimum wage). It’s deeply engrained in our culture that education doesn’t have to be prep for a job. I personally know many people who pursue or have completed uni education that’s completely unrelated to their like of work. Some have degrees in other areas, some don’t. We have some pretty ‘bad’ statistics for how long People take to finish their degrees because people are, like, full time kindergarten teachers and taking 10 years to do a political science degree on the side purely because it interests them. People value education for its own sake and I love it. Unfortunately though, capitalism has this culture on the decline, and not even that long after education became open to most people.

  • It’s like, yeah, I’m against this shit too, but I don’t consent to my trans life being sacrificed for some lofty ideal or some intangible goal of revolution. You can’t vote away capitalism and all of its injustices, but if all leftists refused to vote, the remaining voters would vote away my right to stay alive. Fuck that.

  • Honestly, I mostly let my psychiatrist decide. She asks the right questions and we figure it out together.

Other than that, if I’m dreading work more than usual, I’m probably sick. Same if I’m experiencing physical symptoms, like a sore throat, headache, unusual fatigue, aching body I’ve decided it doesn’t matter if it’s autistic burnout or a minor virus. Both are valid reasons to take sick leave.

Edit: I should point out that I don’t have an official psychiatric diagnosis for autism, just one from a psychologist. So what I’m being treated for is ADHD and literal burnout syndrome.
