196@lemmy.blahaj.zone•I remember this!! it was huge in the UK finally some mainstream representationEnglish
2·3 days agoI thought so, and there are some measurable improvements (married women are allowed to work now, for example). But women are unequal here in many ways still such as wage disparity and the typical long list of issues that aren’t taken seriously because they don’t affect men.
The billionaire-backed online brainwashing is also bringing out the worst in some people, and they vote. So I can see progress stalling if we don’t get a handle on that. But thankfully we don’t have FPTP so their political presence is currently small.

3·4 days agoThat’s fairly shocking alright. And I come from a formerly catholic country (Ireland) which continues to treat women terribly.

7·4 days agoThe most misogynistic and homophobic men I know (family, unfortunately) would be fine with this, but every step in representation counts as progress.

Palestine@lemmy.dbzer0.com•The Gaza genocide radicalized the world – and there’s no going backEnglish
1·7 days agoThe world seems radicalised until you ask people to do anything like boycotting. I hope my cynicism is misplaced, but I don’t know how Zionist-linked products are still in our shopping carts when we have apps making it easier then it has ever been in human history to boycott.
Comments (quality ones) are the life of a community.
This. Normal people can barely remember a domain name unless it’s also the name of the brand. So this platform is filtering for tech enthusiasts which leaves us with the same two-dimensional profile as every other platform.
Not memes but I keep the address bar in the screen shot.

Technology@lemmy.world•Tim Cook and Sundar Pichai are cowards - X’s deepfake porn feature clearly violates app store guidelines. Why won’t Apple and Google pull it?English
1·8 days agoYes, I feel the same way you do. I really don’t want to add to the download metrics. I’m making an exception this time. Some good journalists, for example Richard Chambers (Ireland), have downloaded it to test and debunk claims made by Musk about safeguards. I think their contribution was a net positive. So there are cases where it’s worth doing.
I did not need to open the app once. Just downloading it allowed me to complain to apple using the link above. I feel when it comes to a CSAM factory such as this (possibly even trained on CSAM material), and with EU headquarters in my country (Ireland), I have to report it so Apple cannot claim ignorance. Who knows, maybe a whistleblower will someday tell us how many reports there were. Unfortunately our leaders are not leading on this issue, so the social contract is broken and we should all (IMO) do much more than posting on social media. My personal discomfort is less important.

19·9 days agoThanks, this is very helpful!
It’s only allowing me report apps I’ve installed so I’m wondering if I should very briefly install the app to allow that. I’m generally cautions of allowing dodgy apps on my devices.

World News@lemmy.world•British voters want to be part of EU more than French and Italians, poll revealsEnglish
1·11 days agoBoth Russian assets, so it’s a fair comparison. He’s considered possibly the next PM by a few commentators I trust. If he isn’t, the current PM is still a genocide enabler. And the media landscape is worsening in the UK.
By all means have more dismantlists in the EU if you like, but it’s an obvious net negative in my view.
I would like new (or returning) members to provide genuine EU criticism that challwnges the hypocrisy and collusion regarding genocide, and calling out of the roll back of environmental standards. The general neoliberal mindset there makes me very uneasy. Russian assets aren’t going to help with any of that and neither will a neoliberal.

World News@lemmy.world•British voters want to be part of EU more than French and Italians, poll revealsEnglish
1·11 days agoThe issue isn’t anti-EU politicians once it’s in good faith. Von Der Leyen & Co. are rotten IMO, and are complicit in genocide for not using every lever at their disposal to sanction Israel like they rightly did Russia.
It’s the bad faith, Kremlin-linked obstructionists howling at the moon about invented issues that are impossible to deal with and spread the most disinformation. Hungary should be jettisoned too, IMO, if they can’t change leadership soon.

3·12 days ago- The family convictions

- Proposal to drop “unlucky number” 13 from driving licence plates.

I was hoping he was doing something like the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy.
