Even more hilarious if you have a papillion.

4·23 hours agoIt’s odd; I use Sync Ultra, and while sometimes it uploads images for posts and comments just fine, at other times it simply refuses, and there doesn’t seem to be a pattern to the failures or successes, so I’ve fallen back to Imgur during those times.

Here’s a great example! Just tried to upload this copy. First try, it didn’t upload and didn’t even produce an error message. Second try, uploaded no trouble at all. It’s bizarre.
One of their most beloved erotic cartoonists is Tom of Holland.
JJJ publishes them in an attempt to ruin Spider-Man’s public image. The public instead is desperately thirsty for the spider-bod. Sales of the Bugle go through the roof. JJJ is consumed by the conflict between his hate boner for Spider-Man and his capitalism boner for selling more issues of the Bugle.

7·2 days agoI’m pretty well convinced that gravity plating has to be negligible power draw or possibly even passive technology, since they’ve boarded centuries-old derelict ships that still have artificial gravity. Maybe the gravity plating contains some exotic space-warping material that generates a gravity field. That could also explain the times when someone becomes intangible and can walk through walls, but don’t fall through the floor.

4·3 days agoI think the theory is that capitalism pits the unbearable assholes’ psychotic ambitions against one another and allows the normal people to reap the benefits of their relentless competition, while a functional democracy regulates the economy to prevent any one particular asshole from gaining too much power and enforces regulations to handle the externalities, and that in a functional democracy nobody who is too much of an asshole can ever get too powerful.
Of course, all of that presumes a functional democracy and… well… [gestures around broadly]
Not sure which one, but it’s from The Samurai Trilogy.
Slowly decaying, shriveling, succumbing to the inevitable ravages of entropy that will ultimately reduce me to an undifferentiated pile of organic mess, no matter what means I or anyone else tries to employ to slow the descent.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Its crazy to me that no one is saying "if rhe AI is doing all the jobs maybe we can spend more time with the family and children we supposedly love."
2·4 days agoSuppose that, at a given moment, a certain number of people are engaged in the manufacture of pins. They make as many pins as the world needs, working (say) eight hours a day. Someone makes an invention by which the same number of men can make twice as many pins as before. But the world does not need twice as many pins: pins are already so cheap that hardly any more will be bought at a lower price. In a sensible world, everybody concerned in the manufacture of pins would take to working four hours instead of eight, and everything else would go on as before. But in the actual world this would be thought demoralizing. The men still work eight hours, there are too many pins, some employers go bankrupt, and half the men previously concerned in making pins are thrown out of work. There is, in the end, just as much leisure as on the other plan, but half the men are totally idle while half are still overworked. In this way, it is insured that the unavoidable leisure shall cause misery all round instead of being a universal source of happiness. Can anything more insane be imagined?

You can find your daughter beautiful in a “light of my life” or “I can see her mother in her” kind of a way. But “attractive”? Nah, that’s right out.
