  • It’s nice that they also gave Raide some attention here. It feels like he’s been just the punching bag in most of these trailers so far.

Sindel looks pretty cool and I’m glad they seem to make her good this time. I did not like thag MK11 tried to say she was always evil, I like her natural state being a good guy. Her Hai in-game looks amazing.

Shao looks sweet. Scary, intimidating, and recognizable. Not in love with the horns, but all the rest I’m here for.

  • I was expecting to be the most hyped for Ashrah, but after seeing this, I’m actually most excited for what they did with Reptile. I never, ever thought they’d give him his “human” camouflage again, and I haven’t really liked his designs very much since they got rid of it. But giving it back to him and allowing him to transform into his reptilian form at will will is such a great idea that I think scratches the itch for both versions. And I like him being able to speak in full intelligible sentences too. Plus he’s on the good guys’ side? Yes!!

Ashrah looks decent. I was sad to see her hat missing, but in one of the story scenes she actually does have a hat on. I really hope her hat is a toggleable gear piece for all her oitfits. It looks like at one point Kung Lao, Johnny, Kenshi, Ashrah, and Reptile are being pursued by Outworlders and have to disguise themselves, except Reptile who goes invisible. They appear to have a knocked out Quan Chi with them too, also disguised.

Havik is back, and his design is similar to his classic outfit but also somehow looks younger. His fatal blow is really good. It definitely looks like he is less neutral, more villainous this time around. Seems he has some kind of goal to kill one realm to free another. His scene takes place in the coolest looking stage in the game so far.

We also see some other outfits for some characters. Kitana, Mileena, and Li Mei appear in more regal gear, and I like that outfit for Li Mei a lot more. Johnny and Kung Lao appear in some kind of armored suits. Also we see Kenshi now wearing a blindfold in-story and Johnny assisting him in navigating along. I wonder if Kenshi will permanently lose his vision again, or if it’s a temporary loss, i.e. burns from Reptile’s acid before they team up.

We have seen Kenshi in his suit, Shaolin training gear, his red and black trenchant, and now in his Outworld disguise. We have also seen Johnny in his collared shirt, martial arts gear, armor, and Outworld disguise, meaning there seems to be at least 4 unique skins per character not including palette swaps.

  • On a political and governmental level, I’m not proud at all personally. There is very little that our government did that I think should inspire the rest of the world to follow suit. Maybe stopping a few terrible things that it should have never been doing in the first place, but that’s hardly anything to be proud of when it’s long overdue and with still plenty of other bad things that it’s starting or failing to stop.

But as far as the people who live here go, there are a lot of them that I am proud to know and be around. There are some great people here, and maybe they are partially influenced by some good deeds from the country’s past, or at least the ideals it promoted. Not government leaders thag would affect things on a large scale, but genuinely good people who make things more bearable for those in their vicinity. Ironically some of them are in demographics that this country is not currently respecting or defending enough.

  • My teachers were pretty cool and they made sure to refute any positive spins people tried to attribute to slavery. Some kids came in thinking slave owners treated their slaves just like family, and the teachers shut that right down.

I’m worried about the education system. I bet those same teachers would have gotten into trouble for saying that now, being that it is apparently against the curriculum. I always thought that outside media was misleading and that education was supposed to be the truth. Now it seems like education is misleading, and it is a scary scary thing that outside media might be leaned on to learn the truth.

  • And that isn’t even getting into their drivers and software. Foolish me bought a printer with a scanner and thought I’d be able to just install one little piece of software and be able to print and scan. How silly of me to forget that I to search Google to find instructions that weren’t provided by HP, and download an application that the printer’s instructions did not tell me to install, in order to get the it working.

I almost want this printer to die just so I can never own an HP printer again in my life.

  • Yeah, I think that’s because reddit just has the hugest communities for individual games and niche interests. There are some lemmy communities for some of the games I follow but there are like seven users in each of them. Lemmy is getting really good for broader topics like “games” or “technology” but isn’t quite there yet for more narrow interests like “Dolphin emulator” for example.

  • My understanding is it gets the counts of dislikes from participating content creatos (the dislike count is still there, it’s just hidden except to the video authors) and for non-participating creators it uses data from the users with the extension. I think it applies some smart logic to predict the dislikes based on user feedback in that case, which may not be 100% accurate, but is likely at least somewhat close.

  • I do. Lemmy is great for general purpose stuff, so far the best alternative I’ve found as far as the crossroads between layout and community involvement. However I follow a lot of fandoms and more specific communities, and those just aren’t there yet. I’m trying to start contributing here to encourage it, but the communities for those are still for the most part on reddit.

  • Honestly most people who use emulation probably own a copy of the games they emulate. It actually is possible to legally obtain a ROM or iso of a Nintendo game, despite how bad Nintendo wants you to believe it isn’t. You are allowed to back up software that you purchased. Do most people do it the legal way? Probably not. But effectively I think it’s all the same.

Wanna make money off your old games? Release an upgraded version. Put in the content that was left on the cutting room floor and up the resolution. Or just sell it as an emulator pack with the bare minimum requirements for it to function on the console like they did with 3D all Stars. People will probably still buy it.

  • I never knew how any of that stuff worked and never cared… until I made a dumb comment and someone gave me an award for it. Dammit, I was proud. But I still feel sour about the API changes, to the point where I don’t care what they do. Maybe drive more people out to other platforms. I’d like to see some of my Fandom communities migrate to other places.

Indie is the new AAA. I think some people were saying this even back when most indie games were just 16-bit style sidescrollers. But now small teams and even individual developers are giving us stuff that looks good, plays good, and is more fun than a lot of AAA games out there, and it comes with a lot of variety too. I think that AAA games are going to become micro-transacriom factories. Once Nintendo starts putting loot boxes into their games it’s over for AAA.

Here’s another one. I do not care about 60fps unless the game looks for input every frame. Not even a little bit. I would not have known how many frames Tears of the Kingdom was running on if no one said it in the reviews, and honestly I don’t even really see the difference most of the time.

And a bonus: reamking old games is a good thing. Re-releasing is fine i guess, but enhancing character models, textures, lighting, addressing glitches and stuff that made the original less fun, and maybe giving some bonus content is a great idea. Companies like Nintendo need to stop cracking down on people emulating/modding/making fan enhancements of their old games and start making their own upgraded versions. Most people who play HD mods/remakes of their games would be happy to pay to buy a competent remake/remaster. I play Render96 for Mario 64 and own multiple copies of the game. Would I buy and HD remake anyway? Absolutely.
