Just to note, I publish Bello as a traditional 4 panel comic and also what I call a “Talkie” vertical video version (Reels/Shorts). These use the art from the comic, adjusted as needed and put to a soundtrack with spoken dialogue.

Also, I publish Bello Bear Episodes Mon, Wed, Fri which are 4 panel and more story driven. Tue, Thu, Sat I publish 1 panel Bello Bear Bits (plus vid version. The premise for these is that Bello and Avery try their hand at open mic comedy.

Hi Johnny, I’m glad you’re keeping up with Bello!

As a matter of fact, I have some Euro in me, specifically German. I was born there and we came to the US when I was 7. My go to comics when I was little were Astérix and Lucky Luke. Once we were in the states, I also read pretty much every comic strip in the daily newspaper. A benefit of having a journalist Dad, who subscribed to 3 newspapers at once.

So as you said, there is a bit of a loophole there. Bello may not be inherently Euro, but they are certainly influences in my life.

Hi Rusty, I ended rebooting the comic strip, starting at episode 1… I want to reach a wider audience and decided to do the comics as video shorts (see example, link above in post description). Of course there’s still the traditional 4 panel version.

Hi Johnny. I did but got some help and handed over the reigns for posting those. I was originally doing it all manually and it took a good amount of time. Time that I wanted to focus on my own comic Bello.

Good gravy that looks horrible! That was a weird time, everything had to be futuristic. Not sure how this monstrosity fits that bill though.

I want my comic to reach more people. The logical way to do that is with short form video, which dominates a good chunk of socials.

As an aside, I would love to do my comic as a cartoon, but the escalation of production is just not feasible, even though I have the ability. The format I have come up with is a happy medium between comic strip and cartoon and something I can achieve in a decent time frame.

Thank you :) I had planned on doing the voices myself, but (a) there was not enough differentiation for my taste and (b) I’m just not that good of a voice actor. Not to mention, time is always of the essence and it took me wayyyyy to long. In the end I ended up researching all the AI voice generators and found one I like, that sounded pretty human. I was also able to create voices from scratch with it, so I’m not using off the shelf stuff.

Ultimately, I would love to animate these more, but even though I have the know how, it is insanely time consuming and not in the cards right now.

At this point it’s only George that comes in. The plan is to build up a bunch of customers, so I have more story telling options. I just haven’t had time to develop more characters.

Developing the characters, I think it was subconscious thing where he just came out as a plant. Seems to me plants would be good listeners, old and wise, and with a hint of snakiness here and there.
