Because road bikes are going for weighing as little as possible, so they’re often made with a lot of engineering and expensive materials.

Practically speaking, the gains you get from ultra high end road bikes is negligible unless you’re competing professionally or something, but there’s also just people out there with tons of money and want the best of the best. Most people would be more than fine with an old steel frame and some quality tires though.

Sorry, I can’t ride without flats, normal clothes, some racks, and a big-ass bag or two. Why be aero when wind resistance only makes your legs stronger?
