  • Many of the issues people have with datacenters appear to be “solved” by moving them to space. A few of the solutions are based on common misconceptions and actually wouldn’t work (not to mention all the additional ‘cons’ to building them in space), but to someone who doesn’t know better it might seem appealing

    They’re noisy - no sound in space, plus they’re far away from people

    They take up a lot of real estate - lots of space in space (preferred orbits actually tend to be pretty full of stuff)

    They require a lot of power - solar power is very efficient in space because no atmosphere

    They use a lot of water for cooling - space is cold (it is not)
