Mostly wandered the streets during summertime. No cable, no video games, so I went outside when I woke up, played with the neighborhood kids til the streetlights came on or someone’s parent came outside and hollered for us to get our ass home. Drank water from the hosebibb at whatever house we were in front of at the time. I wandered the bushes around our place with a bolt action .22 or my BB gun. I had a key to let myself in/out. At least twice I had adults tell me that they were there to pick me up and take me home. I rode my bike for miles unsupervised, five, six miles from home.

That’s a pretty boomer way to phrase all that shit, but the facts are mostly correct.

Haven’t some of the members of this place been directly DM’ed and harassed for being trans since federation? I think your wallled utopia statement is a bit inappropriate here. Because you may not have been on the receiving end of harassment does not mean it isn’t happening to others. If you consider a place safe from harassment ‘just vibing’ then ok. I’m against it because i want my trans comrades to have a safe space and i think federation is a bit of a fad. Also, your very first statement isn’t really provable one way or the other so, whatever.

It is a downgrade. That’s exactly my point. People are trying very very hard to make this little corner of the internet into something it isn’t, and should never be. The concept of federation is awesome. In practice, it’s a fucking fiasco.

I understand it’ll likely always be Reddit adjacent. Despite everyone’s staunch assurance that they hate Reddit, and it’s just for dunks, you can only hang out in the barbershop for so long before you end up getting a haircut. At what point does hate browsing or browsing for dunks just become browsing reddit?

Federating has just shown me that the vast lot of Chapos just want Reddit.

Whether it’s to be able to complain about reddit, or because they want that community back, they just want Reddit. By all means, go be on Reddit if that’s what the people want, I’m nobody to tell another human what to do with themselves. But to be frank, I liked this swimming pool without all the turds floating in it that I have to navigate around.
